Meet Free Ride Sponsored Rider Jess:
Payne Equestrian is my husband, Doug, and my full service training business located in Rougemont, NC just outside of Durham! I was born in London, Ontario and proudly represented my roots on the international competition stage since 2008, that is when I was first named to the Canadian team’s short list with my long time partner High Society III in Eventing. I have competed multiple times through the CCI5* level and have competed throughout North America and Europe. Doug and I are now focused on the development of show jumping horses and riders from babies to 5*.
What’s the most important lesson a mentor has taught you?
Jan Byyny has been a mentor and trainer of mine for a very long time. She taught me the meaning of persistence and how to stick with it even when things are tough! The most important lesson horses have taught me would be, to be grateful when you find a special one and enjoy the process.
What's your go to show drink?
I have to have breakfast and a plain latte!
